PROCEDURE
The dentist examines the damaged or weakened tooth and takes x-rays to determine if infection treatment or root canal therapy is necessary before the crown is placed.
Part of the tooth enamel is removed to shape the tooth and create space for the crown. If the tooth is badly decayed, it may be necessary to reconstruct it with a special material before the preparation (build up).
Digital or analog impressions of the prepared tooth and nearby teeth are taken. These impressions are sent to the dental laboratory.
While the final crown is being fabricated, a temporary crown is placed to protect the prepared tooth and maintain functionality and esthetics.
When the crown is ready, the dentist adjusts it, checks the bite and fixes it permanently with a special dental cement, restoring the shape, function and appearance of the tooth.
